    They do interact and there are strategies. The first shooter would always be the most confident shooter to lead the other two. Teammates would also tell how far off they aimed to compensate the wind etc.

    Seems like this sport makes the same mistake golf does when showing it on TV. They pick the WORST camera angles. It should be a down the line view so you can see how far away the target is, how fast the arrows are going and watch the arrow approach/hit the target. Instead they zoom up on the target for the whole shot so you cant see any of that. Just horrible camera work

      Also if I might add, the commentary is always of the obvious. We can count. What would be interesting and helpful is specs. Draw lengths, weights and materials of arrows, bow types, accessories, site types, spotting scope details, visual comparisons of actual distance etc... Delve into the craft and not just report the play by play of the painfully obvious.

      With any televized sport, what you want to see is the athlete's performance and the outcome of it. In archery, that is the the archer's execution of the shot and the arrows' impact on the target, respetively. Whatever the arrows do mid-air is irrelevant. Not to mention the fact that these bows delivers arrows at a speed of roughly 300 feet per second, so you wouldn't be able to see a whole lot from the angle you propose anyway.

  • @hunnermonroe

    • @OArchivesX
      @OArchivesX 11 лет назад +2

      I love archery but I don't like watching this horseshit. People have lost touch with ancient archery. No sight, quicker shooting. These guys are lame. Instinctive shooting is the only way to go for me, that's the only way I'll say you're a skilled archer if you can hit your targets. Bring pro archers from ancient times here and they'd wreck these guys. Not saying these guys aren't good though, and I can't blame them for how they do archery.

    • @Baxtyr
      @Baxtyr 11 лет назад

      XxDevilxXGTz Its hard to argue that, this is like a competition of who can master the newest in bow tech first.

    • @phi1113512
      @phi1113512 11 лет назад +5

      XxDevilxXGTz thats's silly. Anyone who can shoot at 90 meters is skilled. I don't know why everyone thinks that Olympic archers can only shoot modern bows. these people often shoot more traditional, for fun and for practice. Every Olympic level archer I've ever met can shoot better with a longbow than any written record before the 18th century. (excluding myths like Robin Hood obviously). These people train for hours a day, way more than anyone in the past could afford to spend practicing.

    • @OArchivesX
      @OArchivesX 11 лет назад

      Hitting a target with a scope even at 90 meters is something anyone can be taught to do. Also it makes no sense that they would do traditional for "fun", why would they be doing compound in the olympics then? That would mean they are taking the easy and boring way out in a professional sport. Also, if you train hours every day, you realize it wouldn't take that long to get amazing right? And tribes in history had archers that shot fast, were extremely deadly, and archery for them WAS their life. FFS they used to kill people while bouncing on a moving horse. It took this guy 3 years to do build up to this:
      /watch?v=2zGnxeSbb3g
      THIS is what ancient archers could do, AKA wreck modern olympic archers. I'm sure 90 meters wasn't a problem for them since they trained for war more than 3 years.

    • @jmatthies1976
      @jmatthies1976 11 лет назад +5

      XxDevilxXGTz You are out of your fucking mind... In no way, shape, or form, could a "ancient archer" even remotely touch what a modern archer can do. The equipment and technique simply was not there... No two wooden arrows are even close to being the same... If you think anybody can do this stuff, then why don't you try, hotshot? As a former state level competitor, i can tell you, watching videos on youtube and going out and actually being there competing, dealing with the stress, the weather, everything, are two completely different things... People like you are all talk...

  • @ForSeriousSounds
    @ForSeriousSounds 11 лет назад +1

    If you feel that way, then don't watch it. This is more of a mind game at this elite level of performance. It's about control (self), precision, and in outdoor competition, being able to judge the wind and other weather conditions (rain) better than your opponent, to his the center of the target (which is really in the center of your brain in concentration). These guys are at the top of their game, so their facial expressions might make it look easy, but it takes years to get to this level.

      Compound competition is shot from 50m at the inner 6 rings of an 80cm target face (40cm across). The X (inner 10) is only 4cm across (about the size of a Golf ball). Twitch by only a few mm's when aimed at dead center and you'll miss the X :-)

    • @floppychicken68
      @floppychicken68 10 лет назад

      Hmmm, I always thought that it was a 40cm face up to 18m and then a 60cm from 25 to 40, 80cm when shooting 30-50m and the largest at 122cm for 70+ metres? I have a 18m target here and it measures exactly 40cm across the target face (from 1 ring to 1 ring). So, are you saying that they use the same target for 50m outdoor at 50m?? That seems way too small.. ??

    • @clintonhunter3052
      @clintonhunter3052 10 лет назад

      floppychicken68 I am mistaken - they are shooting at a 48cm target, but it is a target that only has the 5 to X rings on it. This makes the 10 ring 8cm across, whereas the 40cm target for indoor has a 10 ring 4cm across.

    As an experienced archer I don't understand how people enjoy watching this boring tournaments, and for the people saying that they can do better you clearly have never been in a tournament, you get really nervous, that leads to tense your muscles which leads to move the bow ending up in a not accurate shot.

    30+28+29+29+29= 145
    28+30+30+28+29= 145 how it become 147?

    I don't see the point of having a team vs another team. They're not interacting with each other in any competitive form. There's no strategy or anything, so it may as well be a team free for all.

    So is it the original English long bow that required like 160lbs of drawing force?

    • @davidmdyer838
      @davidmdyer838 6 лет назад

      No way. 100 lbs or maybe a little more.

    • @Buran01
      @Buran01 5 лет назад +1

      The one which pushed arrows slow? Nah, modern compounds are really faster. Even under 60 pounds of draw weight (the max permited in this kind of events) this ones will move arrows close to 300 fps.

      @@Sardonic_sardine "Joke's on you"? What are you, 6 years old? Have you sworn off punctuation? Just because evidence of a 200 lb. bow was found doesn't mean it was typical, and who knows what happens to wood after drying out for a few hundred years. English longbows were usually between 80 and 150 pounds, 200 would have been very unusual.

    • @davidmdyer838
      @davidmdyer838 2 года назад

      @@Sardonic_sardine Yeah, I found evidence for some stronger weights, but I didn't say 180. But These heavier weights would be for war bows and when this discussion is about target bows, I doubt anyone was shooting much more than 100 lbs. long bows for an exhausting York Round which was at a maximum of 100 yards. Although there may have been some people capable of pulling a 160 lb. war bow, I don't see how you come up with that as a typical draw weight. That's an outrageously powerful bow.

    • @davidmdyer838
      @davidmdyer838 6 лет назад

      Compounds aren't more accurate, it's the releases that make them more accurate. The recurve class doesn't allow them, doesn't allow rear sights, optics, or levels, that's why there is such a difference. There is nothing physically more consistent about a compound bow than a recurve, they just allow more devices in the compound class.

    Are we getting tired of just targets? I have a whole new game competition! Instead of target, shot arrow straight up into air over head out of sight! Stand still an look straight up until shooter visually sights arrow on way down.. Competition: estimate arrow landing site, position feet as close as possible without being struck! Closest distance between arrow an foot gets a point! Twenty points win! Let's have a new archery game in town!
